Amalgam Filling
Composite (rayed) fillings have started to be used in a much more recent period compared to Amalgam fillings. Amalgam fillings, especially in posterior teeth, continued to be used for a long time due to their resistance to abrasion and low cost, since the first versions were aesthetic but not abrasion resistant. However, due to the fact that the abrasion resistance of composite fillings meets the desired and the presence of mercury, a heavy toxic metal in the amalgam filling, and its aesthetic disadvantage, it has now left its place to the composite filling.
